Hey!Album Review Eric Hultgren If you ever wondered what would happen if Elvis Costello joined the Goo Goo Dolls for an album... then the Marvelous 3 is your answer. Currently shooting up the charts at number six on R&R with "Freak of the Week" Marvelous 3 is a band that is a long time coming. The threesome is two-thirds power punk and one third pop candy... like a blowpop with dynamite in the middle. Tracks like the sticky sarcasm of "Vampires in Love" spew irony from every pore..."I suck at this and you suck too and I don't think I am tired at all...Vampires in Love." Despite the reek of Glam-Rock this is approachable music with attitude. Basically a schoolteacher that tells you to kiss their ass! I love when you get into a band and track after track gets better and better, like McDonald's fries right out of the fryer. You start with an infectious tune called "You're So Yesterday", and in the middle the rock anthem "Every Monday", and "Let Me Go" the jilted lover who feels drawn into that dangerous relationship that drags on and on... not that I've been there. Even the ambiguously sexual "Indie Queen" left me wanting Marvelous 3 to have a new album or some vault stuff I could get a hold of... If Siskel were still alive Marvelous 3 would be thumbs up baby! |
