Hey!Album Review Reprise Not many albums are good today. With rock growing less and less prominent, 'rock' bands are going off into all directions. Music has grown into a slipstream of whiny pop stars, looking to make a buck, with a few good bands still lurking around. Given all that, I didn't have very high expectations on this album, even though the hit song "Freak of the Week" is nice and loud and makes you (well, at least me) think. However, this one hit my by suprise. Nice lyrics, melodies and a good 'image' hit you with this album. The first song, "You're So Yesterday," is a hip-lyrical song ("you were kool as hell like e-mail/but still timeless like a letter") that, reading the lyrics, you would think would suck. But it doesn't. Most of the songs are just like that. The lyrics fit the music, and that's all that matters. "Vampires in Love" is quite different then most of the songs on the album, also with very good lyrics, a nice melody and hits you hard, even though it's kinda cheesy - ("Now you know I suck at this, and you suck at it too"), kinda poppy, kinda rocky, but all good. "Until You See", "Every Monday", "Lemonade" and the hit "Freak of the Week," are also good samples from this album. The album is not overly stylistic, being both loud and soft, but basically staying in the same caliber. This is what music, in my opinion needs. There is too much emphasis on making everything perfect, everyone just needs to relax. Even though this album is pretty perfect in a sound way, it is still laid back and gives you that warm, fuzzy, lets-rawk feeling. |
