ReadySexGo Review

Real Detroit

From the first guitar-laden, cowbell-playing, intense passion of “Little Head” to the kicking glam-pop-rock sounds of “Supernatural Blonde,” it’s perfectly clear what the Marvelous 3 are attempting to do on their third full-length album. They are here to rawk! After their big hit “Freak of the Week” in ‘98, the band is now back full force with a sexier, grittier and overall more rocking album. With Lit-esque double layered guitars driving each song, next to lead singer Butch Walker’s snotty and raw vocals, these poppy rock songs make leather pants, shiny silver and pop-rock sexier than anything. In fact, Jeremy from Lit as well as Roger Joseph Manning Jr. of Jellyfish fame, are just two of the guest rockers. This trio’s been called posers for having a bad-ass look, but too sweet songs. This time around it’s a little different. With a bit more attitude, the men are leaning more toward the Kiss route this time. Every song is an over the top rock cliché, so if you can’t enjoy that as part of the fun, than you won’t get into the groove. After all, the closing song on the album, “Cigarette Lighter Love Song,” steals directly, with no qualms about it, from the Mott The Hoople/Bowie arena song “All the Young Dudes.” You don’t get any more rock cliché than that. And you don’t get any f**king cooler than the Marvelous 3.

Reason to Buy: The perfect rock cliché of cowbell, handclaps, tambourine, na-nas and posse vocals.

Best Listening Experience: “Sugarbuzz,” “Get Over” and “Supernatural Blonde.”
